'Break my heart, for what breaks yours'
If you know me, you know my heart wants to so desperately go to Africa. There isn't one day that goes by where I don't think about Africa and the people who live there. If I could sell everything I own right now and fly to Africa, I would. But I know that isn't what the Lord is asking of me right now.
Many people give me a quizzical look when I tell them I want to be a missionary in Africa. I have never been there, have only been a 'real' Christian for a year, and am only 19 years old. But Jesus has put a fire in my heart and I need to say yes to what He is asking of me. I have started to plan for my days when I will one day make the trek to the beautiful kids and land awaiting me. I have cut back on the typical 'american' spending and have chosen to start living simply. This is not something that is easy for me by any means. I grew up never thinking about those across the world from me. Thinking about the stuff I wanted, rather than what I actually needed. I love shopping, I love clothes, I love caribou coffee, I love getting my nails done...but none of that matters. I love love love love love love Jesus and His plans for my life. So, it was time for me to cut back and boy is that hard. Completely changing how I spend my money and doing that in this culture where spending money is so easy, is challenging. It's hard to not buy what I want, but honestly, it is worth it.
After sharing my hopes and dreams with my dear friend Emily, she told me about a book called 'Kisses from Katie'. And friends, this book is amazing!! Read this book and you will understand what I want with my life.
